Peyote (Lophophora williamsii), San Pedro and Peruvianus cacti

The use of hallucinogenic cacti has been used for thousands of years the native peoples of the Americas. The main active ingredient is mescaline, which Aldous Huxley famously wrote about in his book, The Doors of Perception, though they have been also been found to have other psychoactive alkaloids.

The Peyote cacti is probably the most well known of all hallucinogenic cacti, it has the highest concentrate of Mescaline and is the slowest growing cacti in the world, taking up to 10 years to grow to the size of a small apple. The San Pedro or Peruvians also has a history of shamanic usage dating back to Peru for over 3000 years; this is the fastest growing cacti and also the tallest reaching heights of twenty feet.

Peyote is a hallucinogenic cactus that grows naturally in the desert regions of northern Mexico and the southern United States.

Peyote has a history of traditional use amongst native American tribes as a shamanic teacher plant that can give visions of an alternate reality or the spirit world.

It is also used as a recreational drug in western cultures and it has similar (but not the same) effects to LSD or magic mushrooms. The effects of peyote (or mescaline) are unique and although they can begin with nausea, this levels out to a narcotic euphoria and intense, yet pleasurable hallucinations.

As opposed to LSD and psylocybin (the chemical in magic mushrooms that gets you high), which tend to have more of an adrenalin-controlled experience, peyote leads you to a dream-like trance state, which is both enjoyable and unique. For this reason, it is said to be one of the ultimate highs and we only suggest you use peyote for this purpose if you live in a country where it is legal to do so.

16 year old peyote and an apple.Peyote is not a party drug and should be treated with respect. If the top of the button is cut off it should grow back next year. Please note we will not sell any peyote to anybody who has the intention of massacring the plant.

Peyote grows very slowly and needs to be at least 12 years old before it is ready for journeying; the above pic compares a 16-year-old peyote to an English apple.

The San Pedro cactus is the name given to psychoactive species of the genus Trichocereus (T. pachanoi, T. peruvianus) which comprises about thirty species, mainly found in the Andes. It is a large columnar cactus that grows up to heights of twenty feet. Its mescaline content is less than that of peyote (0.3 - 1.2 percent), but because of its great size and rapid growth, it may provide a more economical source of mescaline than peyote. The Tricocereus Peruvianus gives clear visions and hallucinations during a mystical and earthy trip. This information is supplied purely for educational purposes if you live in the UK.
