Salvia divinorum is highly variable in its effects; some people easily achieve pronounced results from smoking or chewing plain leaves, while others do not manage to effectively use the leaves to get the desired high. These standardised extracts are available in formulations ranging from 5X to 20X.

As the name implies, a 5X or 10X extract is 5 times or 10 times stronger than plain leaf. There are two kinds of extracts on the market: regular and standardised.

The standardised extracts we sell are far superior to regular extracts. The regular extract is a crude substance made by simply soaking the Salvia leaves in a solvent to dissolve the salvinorin-A out of the leaves. The trouble with this method is it's not just the salvinorin-A that is extracted; lots of impurities such as chlorophyll and plant fats are also dissolved too. This means a lot of crap ends up in the finished extract and subsequently in your lungs.

The standardised extract is made by producing pure crystalline salvinorin-A, which is then applied to the leaves, so there is no extra chlorophyll or plant fat in the final product. It burns very cleanly and is milder on the lungs, as there is lower amounts of unhealthy tar in the smoke.

Furthermore, with the standardised extract you get a guaranteed quantity of the active ingredient, unlike the crude extract, which has varying amounts of salvinorin-A (always less), so you don't know exactly what you are paying for. A 5X standardised extract has 12.5 mg of salvinorin-A per gram of leaf and a 10X has 25 mg per gram of leaf.
